Two Christmas Programs Available on Sparkhouse Digital

A long-standing tradition in many congregations, the annual Christmas program showcases the talents of the youngest church family members. As actors, singers, dancers, and—sometimes intentionally and sometimes not—comedians, Christmas pageants bring to the forefront the talents, creativity, and cuteness of the kids and youth in church.

Christmas programs can look many different ways, but one thing they all have in common is that they tell the story of the night Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Sparkhouse Digital includes two different programs—one that features lots of familiar music and one that gives the children and youth in the congregation a chance to explore the world of spoken word art.

The Holy Family Is Here is a musical Christmas program designed with flexibility in mind for churches to present the story of Christmas through drama and music. The play can be part of a worship service during Advent or can stand on its own as an afternoon or evening production surrounded by music and scripture. It could also be the basis for your Christmas Eve family service. The program can be adapted for groups of many sizes. You can cast children to play all main parts or plan a more intergenerational cast. The Director Guide includes planning information, a cast list, a complete script, and lots of suggestions of music to incorporate throughout the program.

Living Word is a Christmas program created by spoken word artist Joe Davis for churches to present the story of Christmas through spoken word poetry and music. This program opens up space for children, youth, and families to ask big questions about how the Nativity story speaks to our deep longings for healing and justice in the world.

Living Word can be a stand-alone event or part of a worship service. It is designed to be adapted for groups of many sizes. Children and youth of all ages can participate as co-writers, stage managers, cast members, singers, movers/dancers, poets, stagehands, or assistants for costuming, prop, and set design. Adult leaders and volunteers can work alongside the youth as mentors and guides. The Director Guide includes planning information, a cast list, a complete script, and a guide to lead participants through three rehearsals as they embrace their creativity.

No matter the size or age of your cast, these programs can help your congregation celebrate the holy night of Jesus’ birth. Check them out on Sparkhouse Digital today!
