I'm a be-LEAFLET-er! Using hands-on Activities to Engage Children in Sunday School

Having just volunteered for "Unplugged Illinois" Saturday of activities in local parks for kids and families that DON'T involve screens, I was reminded of the power of putting pen (or crayon in this case) to paper!

Sunday School leaflets for kids might seem old school to you. In fact, they are well over a 100-year-old way of engaging kids! Leaflets have been a Sunday School standard since 1902! That's when full-color chromolithography first began to be used by David C. Cooke, Standard, Berean Publishing, and others. At first, these were about the size of a postcard with a "hero" image of Bible characters on the front and the Bible story followed by interactive questions on the back.

Over time, perforations, stickers, places to color, and even ways to fold leaflets into manipulatives were designed into the Sunday School learning experience. At Sparkhouse, I can assure you that significant thoughtfulness and artfulness combined to create the state-of-the-art leaflets we offer today.

While leaflets may seem like "old school" Sunday School to adults, they are new to your kids every year. They offer a common space for your kids to work through Bible stories together with their leaders. They give novice teachers the confidence to share key Bible learnings in creative ways, even though they may feel less than expert.

Leaflets create unplugged Sunday School moments in ways that are both engaging for kids and convenient for leaders. They come in semester-long packs with enough leaflets in each pack for one learner to experience a dozen or so Bible stories.

If you do the math--figuring in paper, ink, and especially your precious time--Sparkhouse Sunday School leaflets, will prove themselves time and time again to be a great choice for busy directors, volunteer teachers, and  active students!

Putting crayon to paper, leaflets help Bible stories go from just words on a page to become teachable moments that last and last.

Will they get stuck under car seats on the way home from church? To be sure. But for a little while, those leaflets provided a sacramental space for rambunctious children to pause and ponder the things of God.

This year, become a be-LEAFLET-er with me once again!
