Growing Roots: Intentionally Planted and Fully Adored

May 21, 2026 9:30:00 AM / by Jia Starr Brown

As our “ism-ridden” nation routinely “hocks and spits” out Black, Brown, immigrant, and LGBTQIA+ and their allies……it sure doesn’t feel like Spring. Surely, the devastation of the division happening to our country is enough to keep any of us curled up in bed.

Wherever and however this blog finds you: Welcome to May, indeed.

Here in Minnesota, May is the month of “just around the corner” sun and “here and not yet” summer. This is the month of nature blossoming into its fullest forms… which typically includes itchy eyes, scratchy throats, and those pesky mosquito bites.

And yet, there is something to be said for living amongst such diverse forms of God’s creation - not merely to scan for the irritating chapters, but also to witness the expansiveness of life that extends beyond the frustrating and into the awe-someness of knowing that every form of life was designed to bring value to Kin_dom. Each living thing has purpose, and has everything they need inside of themselves to blossom into God’s fearfully and wonderfully made plan.

Isn’t it fascinating that somehow each form of God’s creation inherently knows what it needs in order to become what God has ordained it to become?

Think about it.

Architect God designed life forms with such intricate details - miraculously, incredulously, cells know to divide and grow. (I am reminded here of the preschool song: “The knee bone is connected to the thigh bone…”)

Plants know they need sunlight; they literally can angle themselves in the direction of its shining warmth. Our meat-eating furry friends instinctively know they are carnivores: they just, know.

Even as allergy medications are leaping off the shelves -

Even as frustration builds and feathers get ruffled -

Every living organism grew from seeds intentionally chosen, intentionally planted, absolutely wanted, lovingly anticipated, faithfully nurtured, and absolutely adored. And that includes us as well!

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” - Ephesians 2:10

For Someone, anyone, to devote unconditional time and energy to our personhood and wholeness communicates that we, and that pollen, must be worth the investment.

Just for being us.

God cares for you.

Daily.

Now.

The Planter stays close, tending to the growing seedlings every need because that’s what intentional planters do: they believe.

We must find a way to believe with God. We need to remember Who chose us. Who planted us. Who believed in us just as we are, remaining faithful to what They believed - what they knew we would become:

Here for Good.

Cells, growing and moving together in community for the collective good. For collective wholeness.

That is who we are.

That is who you are:

Here for Good.

In every sense of the statement.

This month, I invite you to take a walk with me through nature - grab your cool shades, allergy drops, sunscreen, and bug spray (whew!)

Stroll among your seeding siblings, also intentionally planted with purpose. As the world may be actively telling you otherwise, take this opportunity to remember who you are. You can bring your fears, your rage, your heart, and your grief to the One who loves you most.

Lay your worries at the Gardener’s feet.

Surely, the Crafter of Cells can handle the weight of our spirits.

Be encouraged. Look around at all of the other God-breathed cells of nature that are moving in community - as intended.

They are all Here for Good, just like you and me.
