Welcome to the Flat Jesus project! Whether you participated last summer or are just joining us, we’re glad you’re here! Below you’ll find all the pointers, guidelines, and tips you need to introduce the project into your church community this summer. Now let’s have some fun!
ABOUT
Flat Jesus is inspired by a national school project called Flat Stanley, based on a book written by Jeff Brown. Just as Flat Stanley has helped children with literacy and geography, Flat Jesus helps children stay plugged into the biblical message you’ve been sharing with them all year.
HOW TO BEGIN
Each student gets their own paper cutout of Jesus to take with them on their summer adventures. You’ll encourage families to take photos of themselves with Jesus—at the park, on vacation, at VBS, or just hanging around the neighborhood—as a reminder that Jesus is with us wherever we go. The project also provides an opportunity to help families stay connected to your ministry even during the craziness of summer.
To help build excitement and encourage participation in the Flat Jesus project, we’ve created a bulletin board starter pack to use in your church, which includes cutouts and an activity list. Use this to create a visual reminder of all the places your church families are going with Jesus this summer.
PARTICIPATION
Joining in the fun is easy. Ask families to send you pictures of their adventures with Flat Jesus to share on your church’s social media sites. Be sure to use the hashtag #FlatJesus and/or tag us in the picture for a chance to win that $100 Sparkhouse gift card!
